New website for TeamArbejdsliv

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

We just finished a new website for TeamArbejdsliv – a Danish consultancy group helping organizations to improve work life.

The design has the typical Genau touch – white with a twist. WordPress is the engine behind it all, but this setup is not just another WordPress site. It is a highly customized installation with many advanced features. One example is the presentation of TeamArbejdsliv’s many finished and ongoing projects and publications. TeamArbejdsliv have quite a few reports and projects behind them, all of which are available in a big table on the website. Fortunately the table is instantly sortable through jquery powered magic. Have a look at www.teamarbejdsliv.dk/projekter/projekter to check it out.

WordPress workshop at Roskilde University

Monday, September 12th, 2011

the genau.dk team teaching wordpress at rucLast week we did a WordPress workshop as part of a digital communication course at Roskilde Universtity. As always it was a pleasure to teach. In the workshop we talked about the history of WordPress related to the general development of the internet and did a crash course in setting up a self-hosted WordPress compared to using WordPress.com. We finished off with the 20 students trying out wordpress.com for themselves and playing with themes and plugins.
At the end of our lecture we received an applause – that never happened before!!

We use a test site for these courses that you can see here: http://genaudk.wordpress.com/

In early June we launched a redesign of our long-term partner www.sjaeloer.dk. The site had been online for about two years and needed a brush-up with a more corporate and official touch.

Recent Drupal workshops

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

We recently held two Drupal workshops for the Danish IT workers union PROSA.

The first workshop was at PROSA Superhelt and concentrated on when to use Drupal compared to WordPress. We are often faced with this question: Drupal or WordPress? Here is a great recent article covering this question – but often other factors like money and time will have an impact on the choice.

The second workshop was held at the local PROSA Odense. During a three hour hands-on session we built an online newspaper with different content types and a team of different editors – all with the help from Drupal 7. Here is a screenshot of the prototype design:

We like to teach so get in touch if you need a Drupal workshop! Read more about our Drupal courses in Danish here.

Drupal 7 released

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Finally the official version of Drupal 7 is here!

So far the experience of working with Drupal 7 is very positive, and it is amazing what you can build with this framework.

The best thing about Drupal 7 is that so many things work out of the box, and you no longer need to install 15 extra modules to make a working website. And the whole interface has become more simple to use. Another great thing is that it loads faster than previous versions.

One thing that many people will probably miss is a rich text editor like the one used inside WordPress. Drupal 7 still ships with no editor at all.

In this world of web development things tend to change very fast. On the opposite, the work on Drupal 7 has taken such a long time, so it will be interesting to see if Drupal can keep up with the pace and requirements of other internet players.

Here is a video introduction to Drupal 7:

We look forward to using Drupal 7 in future web projects. See you at the party tomorrow!
