New website for TeamArbejdsliv

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

We just finished a new website for TeamArbejdsliv – a Danish consultancy group helping organizations to improve work life.

The design has the typical Genau touch – white with a twist. WordPress is the engine behind it all, but this setup is not just another WordPress site. It is a highly customized installation with many advanced features. One example is the presentation of TeamArbejdsliv’s many finished and ongoing projects and publications. TeamArbejdsliv have quite a few reports and projects behind them, all of which are available in a big table on the website. Fortunately the table is instantly sortable through jquery powered magic. Have a look at www.teamarbejdsliv.dk/projekter/projekter to check it out.

WordPress workshop at Roskilde University

Monday, September 12th, 2011

the genau.dk team teaching wordpress at rucLast week we did a WordPress workshop as part of a digital communication course at Roskilde Universtity. As always it was a pleasure to teach. In the workshop we talked about the history of WordPress related to the general development of the internet and did a crash course in setting up a self-hosted WordPress compared to using WordPress.com. We finished off with the 20 students trying out wordpress.com for themselves and playing with themes and plugins.
At the end of our lecture we received an applause – that never happened before!!

We use a test site for these courses that you can see here: http://genaudk.wordpress.com/

New design launched

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

The new design for this website has finally launched. Why did it take us so long then? It could seem ironic that people who make websites on a daily basis are so slow, but designing – and deciding – for your own website can actually be really hard.

Our previous design had been running since 2007 (!) so we realized that it was about time to freshen it up. But we wanted more than just a new design. Specifically, we wanted the site to communicate more clearly what we do – to focus on our core services. And we wanted to integrate social media like facebook.

To achieve this we collaborated with Julie who worked with us during a month long session of ping-ponging ideas back and forth. And we created a company page on facebook.

The result is what you see. Maybe a little more corporate and traditional than before but hopefully you like it!

The new concept has had some implications regarding the language. From now on we are going to use a hybrid Danish/English approach meaning that the blog will continue to run in English, but all other content will be in Danish. We often meet this language challenge in the world of building websites, but we felt that using a complete bilingual solution would be overkill in our case. So our choice is a compromise.

Back in town

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

We spent the weekend in the deep forests of Sweden and on the southern Danish islands respectively. Great to go completely offline now and then.. It was well worth it since we haven’t had time to relax lately – just look in our about + portfolio section and check out the recent website launches from us.

In particular we are very excited about the Niche Vine website because it features a fully fledged webshop. We have never built a webshop (for the Danish Dankort) before and learned a lot in that proces. The challenges of setting up a webshop that accepts the Danish Dankort are a bit more complex than for instance setting up a paypal shop for Visa etc. Now we can add webshop building to our competences!

We also launched Morgenstern & Hertling – a four language WordPress site created in cooperation with Manja in Berlin. Maybe some more work in Berlin will make it necessary for us to go there once in a while.

We also helped Netværk for Yngle Planlæggere (Network for Young City Planners) migrate their old Joomla based site to Drupal as well as adding a brand new design.

Have a look at our portfolio and come by for coffee soon.

Re-launch of websites for Samtalegrupper

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Today we finished a re-launch of the two websites www.samtalegrupperkbh.dk and www.samtalegrupperfrb.dk. Have a look!

The job required an interface that was interactive and easily updated by Samtalegrupper staff. For our solution we used WordPress together with a few jquery based plugins.

Furthermore we collaborated with Obey Films to create a short promotion video to be used on the website and on youtube:

This project is another result of collaborating with the other companies at our shared office space bryggen93. Five different companies and nine people now make it possible to deliver services across different (but related) areas like web, film, social media, print and/or real activism.

We are looking forward to more collaboration soon.

genau lab has launched

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

We recently launched a new blog at www.genau.dk/lab – this will function as a fast testing ground for various projects in the future. Keep an eye on it to stay updated with the freshest stuff on the internet. A few of the posts will probably be password protected though, but have fun anyway.

Making websites with WordPress

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

We have been making websites with the blogging tool WordPress for a while. The most recent ones have been static sites and not “blogs”, but we used WordPress anyway. With features like static pages, alternate front page, built-in galleries and much more, WordPress has developed into a great content management system. And with a little knowledge about php and css it is pretty easy to make a unique design. Here you have our recent projects:

sandra odgaard

Personal website for Sandra Odgaard working with graphic design and illustration. Take a closer look at http://sandraodgaard.dk

asger svendsen

Asger Svendsen – teaching the bassoon.

rumah saga guesthouse

Rumah Saga Guest House – a nice place to stay in Indonesia.

anne lass

Anne Lass – a great photograper based in Berlin. By the way this is our second website for a photographer – we made the first one back in January 2008: http://alexanderhala.com
